I really like the netbook. It works well, is a bit 'slow on the internet, but I used my super high-end 17 "Dell laptop. I was aware of the netbook will be slower, so no big problem. Baterry life and portability are important. Large purchase for the money.

LOVE THIS LITTLE NETBOOK ! 5 STARS

I have used this Netbook for about a month now and I can say that this has been the greatest computer purchase ever. I bought this because I am a college student and I have been stuck with a desktop computer sitting in my dorm room. It was very inconvenient to write notes or even go to the library between classes just to check your emails and stuff. After purchasing this netbook, I can carry it around in my 
backpack without worrying about the weight and use it everywhere I go. I use this netbook to check email, surf the web, take notes during class, Skype, write essays, etc. I would highly recommend this Asus netbook to any college students who are looking for an affordable portable netbook. For far I haven't had a problem with it. Battery life is very good. I can last the whole day on a single charge. The screen is a glossy, but it's not a huge issue. With this purchase, I also purchased the mCover 
hard cover for it and it looks very cute. The white makes it look very sleek and clean and since the screen is bordered with black, it gives it a very nice 
sophisticated look since if it was all white, it could've looked very toy-ish. 
The typing is great on this little thing. I got used to typing on it in about a day. I would recommend getting a keyboard cover since little dusts are visible. 
I love this Netbook and I am very satisfied with this purchase, especially from Amazon ! (: 5 stars !!

I really like the netbook. Works well, it is a little slow on the web but I am used to my super top of the line 17" dell laptop. i was aware the netbook will be slower so it is not big deal. Portability and baterry life are OUTSTANDING. Great buy for the money.

I like the 1000HE better

I just picked up an 1005PE for my daughter's HS graduation. I don't see any noticeable speed difference between the newer 1005PE (Atom N450) and my older 1000HE (Atom N280), which I have had for a year and love. This lack of perceived speed increase in the N450 machine -could- be attributable to the difference between XP Home (on the 1000HE) and Win7 Starter (on the 1005PE). 

Pros: 
Mostly a very nice little machine. Sets up easily and seems to work OK. 

Cons: 
(1) I definitely think the older 1000HE has better build / mechanical quality than the newer 1005PE. The screen hinge on the 1000HE is definitely sturdier and also the trackpad & mouse buttons are sturdier on the older 1000HE. The trackpad button(s) control on the 1005HE is a single small chrome-colored bar, you either hit the left end or the right end. This little bar seems flimsy to me and I hope it holds up well over time. I don't quite know how to describe the trackpad on the 1005HE, it's like it's just a thin overly on the body of the machine, but it does seem to have good sensisitivity. Again, it just looks cheap. It just seems to me that Asus cheapened up the mechanical packaging in order to save a few bucks. 

(2) The recovery partition on the HD is smack in the middle of the disk. I'd like to move it to the end and consolidate the C and D drives into a single drive, but I don't know if the recovery function will still work if the recovery partition is moved. I cannot figure out why Asus ships these machines with separate C and D logical drives. 

Asus marketing types, if you're listening, what I really want is a 1005PR with the Broadcom video chip, fully installed and tested and ships with all the drivers, but in the mechanical package of the 1000HE.
